OLFACTORY SIGNALS
Project
For its 2026 Paris and Milan editions, Olfactory Signals commissioned Zeroth to design the exhibition environments and art installations with artist Sissel Tolaas, using ventilation, airflow and molecular scent as architectural materials.
In Paris, fourteen brands displayed their products on fourteen tables built from HVAC ducts and glass plates. Clear pipes carried air and scent molecules sampled from each brand to the central installation, Breath of One Many, which blended the exhibitors’ distinct olfactory atmospheres into one collective effect.
In Milan, a series of experimental air filters doubled as exhibition displays. These Smell Sinks filtered the build-up of perfume: fans drew room air through activated-charcoal cartridges, adsorbing fragrance molecules and other volatile organic compounds before returning the treated air. On the rooftop, Open Air formed an off-grid lounge where solar power drove fans distributing molecular scents and refrigerators chilling drinking water infused with aromatic molecules.
